Gavvalu are made from a dough prepared with rice flour, maida (all-purpose flour), and a pinch of salt, which is then rolled into small balls. These balls are pressed against a special tool called a "gavvalu press" or "kodava press," which shapes them into small, shell-like forms with ridges on one side. These shells are then deep-fried until they turn golden brown and crisp.
After frying, the gavvalu are coated with a syrup made from jaggery (a type of unrefined cane sugar) and flavored with cardamom or other spices. This gives them a sweet and aromatic taste, with a slightly crunchy texture on the outside and a softer interior.
